On Sunday we will be joined by Mitchell Stephens, author of the book, Imagine There's No Heaven: How Atheism Helped Create the Modern World.
Mitchell Stephens is a journalist and reporter, as well as a professor in New York University's Journalism Institute. His work includes the best-selling book "A History of News", and contributions to The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Columbia Journalism Review, and recently to National Public Radio's Marketplace series.
Mitchell Stephens has been studying the history of atheism for a decade, and Imagine There's No Heaven is the story of the contributions and achievements made my non-believers from classical Greece to the 21st century. Not only are these advancements put forth by those who simply happen to be non-believers; Imagine There's No Heaven highlights those advancements that have been made when the precepts and principles of the church have been questioned and challenged.

Wicked Gods is a thriller with an extra mystery attached for good measure. The novel itself evokes the complexity of Dan Brown, though with better writing. From the publisher's description:
When her seismic exposé of religious abuses lands on the best-seller list, Professor Mira Veron becomes a darling of the literati and a target for religious extremists and culture-warriors alike. With her soon-to-be-ex-husband scheming to undermine her, her opportunistic agent attempting to cash in on her name, and a seductive born-again assassin tracking her every move, she meets up with a publishing tycoon who is guarding a volatile secret.
Veron is drawn into an underground network by the promise of cataclysmic religious revelations only to watch as her new associates mysteriously die, one by one. Under siege by forces seen and unseen, she embarks on a desperate quest for answers. Now she must choose between defending her work and defending her life.
If that isn't enough mystery for you, Eilís Leyne is a pseudonym. About the author:
Eilís Leyne is the pen name of an author whose non-fiction works have appeared in more than a dozen publications, including the Christian Science Monitor and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Having written two well-received non-fiction books, Wicked Gods is her debut novel.
Join us on Sunday as we talk to our mystery guest about her new book.

David will be joining Atheists Talk this Sunday to discuss the upcoming 2014 National Convention in Salt Lake City, American Atheists billboards, and the CPAC controversy.

Sylvia Broeckx is hardly the first person living in Europe to be appalled at how atheists are treated in the U.S. Her approach to dealing with the problem, however, was new. Rather than tut (perhaps rightly) at how uncivilized we are, she decided to do something about it. After crowdsourcing the funding, she came to the U.S. to make a film featuring everyday atheists in the U.S. The result was the documentary Hug an Atheist, which premiered at the atheist film festival in San Francisco last year.
This Sunday, Sylvia joins us to discuss making her film and her quest to get the film out to festivals and wider audiences. Later that day, we will be screening Hug an Atheist for our monthly meeting, with the proceeds to fund distribution of the film.
