Many religions claim to hold the answers to life’s big questions: What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? From where do we get our morals? Some say it’s all because of God, and that leaves us atheists throwing our hands in the air.
But now Alex Rosenberg has written a book just for us. In The Atheist’s Guide to Reality: Enjoying Life Without Illusions, Dr. Rosenberg walks us through the science that succeeds in providing these answers without having to fall back on supernatural explanations. He celebrates scientism, embraces “nice nihilism” and takes us on a fast-paced, wild journey through the physics, chemistry and biology that explain our past, present and future. He shows how science influences our politics, ethics, and how we think about ourselves and the world around us.
Dr. Alexander Rosenberg is the R. Taylor Cole Professor of Philosophy at Duke University, and the co-director of Duke’s Center for the Philosophy of Biology. His areas of interest include metaphysics, David Hume and causation, and the philosophy of economics, biology, and cognitive and behavioral science. He is a prolific author, with thirteen published books, contributions in two anthologies of philosophy and approximately 180 journal articles spanning from 1972 to the present.

Why do all the world's major religions have patriarchy and the enslavement of women at their core? We examine why everyone who cares about equality and liberation for women should fight against the shackles of religion.
Sunsara Taylor will explore these questions with regards to the conditions of women worldwide, but with an emphasis on dispelling any illusion that religion -- and Christianity in particular -- is any more "enlightened" as it is practiced here in the U.S. She will draw from AWAY WITH ALL GODS! Unchaining the Mind and Radically Changing the World by Bob Avakian.
Sunsara Taylor writes for Revolution Newspaper, sits on the Advisory Board of The World Can't Wait, and is a co-host on "Equal Time for Freethought" on WBAI radio in NYC.

David Eller is a cultural anthropologist who has spent considerable time on the topics of violence and religion. In his recent book, Cruel Creeds, Virtuous Violence: Religious Violence Across Culture and History, he explores the intersection of the two. He examines the various types of religious violence and the interaction between the cultural and religious factors that contribute to that violence. He looks at how religion can shape a culture in ways that make violence more likely, or less. Please join us as we discuss this fascinating--and ever timely--topic.

Donald Prothero is a palaeontologist who is very much disliked by the Discovery Institute and loved by skeptics, science aficionados, and students. He has written several books and over 200 papers for peer reviewed journals, popular magazines, and anthologies. He wrote "Evolution: What the Fossils Say and Why it Matters," "Catastrophes!: Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Tornadoes, and Other Earth-Shattering Disasters," "Greenhouse of the Dinosaurs: Evolution, Extinction, and the Future of Our Planet," as well as numerous text books and scientific monographs.
Don is in town for the Geological Society of America meetings, and has agreed to come by the studio and chat with Greg Laden about dinosaurs, climate change, science denialism and, of course, the psychology of cryptozoology, which is the subject of one of his current writing projects.
Professor Prothero is Professor of Geology at Occidental College and Lecturer in Geobiology at the California Institute of Technology. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and the Paleontological Society.
