It is alleged that the Bible is the word of an all-powerful, all-wise, all-loving, unchanging god.  The Bible supposedly records direct actions by this god and also actions this god commands others to take on his behalf.  As you read the following passages, decide for yourself: If this god really exists, does he deserve our admiration and worship?

6   ...I am the LORD, and there is no other,

Exodus 21:2-11  (God condones slavery.)

2   "If you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years; but on the seventh he shall go out as a free man without payment.

3   If he comes alone, he shall go out alone; if he is the husband of a wife, then his wife shall go out with him.

4   If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall go out alone.

5   But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife and my children; I will not go out as a free man,'

6   then his master shall bring him to God, then he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost.  And his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him permanently.

7   If a man sells his daughter as a female slave, she is not to go free as the male slaves do.

8   If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who designated her for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed.  He does not have authority to sell her to a foreign people because of his unfairness to her.

9   If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of daughters.

10   If he takes to himself another woman, he may not reduce her food, her clothing, or her conjugal rights.

Exodus 21:20-21  (God says that you may beat a slave to death, so long as he or she doesn't die immediately.)

20   "If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished.

21   If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property."  (NASB)

 

Leviticus 25:44  (God says that Israelites may buy slaves from the nations around them.)

44   "As for your male and female slaves whom you may have - you may acquire male and female slaves from the pagan nations that are around you."  (NASB)

 

 

Genesis 3:16   (God creates painful childbirth.)

16   To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children;..."  (NASB)

 

Genesis 3:16   (God makes wives subservient to their husbands)

16   "...Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you."  (NASB)

 

Exodus 21:7   (God says that if you sell your daughter as a slave, she shall not go free.)

7   "If a man sells his daughter as a female slave, she is not to go free as the male slaves do."  (NASB)

 

Exodus 22:18  (See also: Leviticus 20:27)  (God says to kill "witches.")

18   "You shall not allow a sorceress to live."  (NASB)

 

Leviticus 12:2-5   (God says that a woman who gives birth to a female child will be "unclean" twice as long as she would be if she had given birth to a male child.)

3   On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

14   and charges her with shameful deeds and publicly defames her, and says, ‘I took this woman, but when I came near her, I did not find her a virgin,'

15   then the girl's father and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of the girl's virginity to the elders of the city at the gate.

16   The girl's father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man for a wife, but he turned against her;

17   and behold, he has charged her with shameful deeds, saying, "I did not find your daughter a virgin."  But this is the evidence of my daughter's virginity.'  And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city.

18   So the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him,

19   and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give it to the girl's father, because he publicly defamed a virgin of Israel.  And she shall remain his wife; he cannot divorce her all his days.

20   But if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin,

1 Corinthians 11:7-10   (The Bible says women are second class to men.)

7   For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

8   For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man;

9   for indeed man was not created for the woman's sake, but woman for the man's sake.

10   Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.  (NASB)

 

1 Corinthians 14:34-35  (The Bible says women should keep silent in church.)

34   The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says.

Ephesians 5:22-24   (The Bible says that wives should be subject to their husbands.)

2 Kings 2:23-24   (God sends two bears to attack 42 children who tease a prophet for being bald.)

23   Then he [the prophet Elisha] went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the way, young lads came out from the city and mocked him and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead!"

24   When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD.  Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty-two lads of their number.  (NASB)

Leviticus 20:13   (God says to kill gay men.)

Romans 1:24-27   (God is opposed to homosexuality.)

24   Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.

THE DIVINE RIGHT OF KINGS 

 

The Judeo-Christian Bible supports the idea that all government rulers are the will of a god.  This was the justification for the Divine Right of Kings.  Thus, the 1776 American Revolution against King George III of England violated the following Biblical passages:

 

Daniel 2:20-21

20   Daniel said, "Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him.

21   It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings..."  (NASB)

 

1 Peter 2:13-14

13   Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority,

14   or to governors as sent by him...  (NASB)

 

Romans 13:1-2

1   Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.

2   Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.  (NASB)

10   But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers that does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you,

11   and they shall be abhorrent to you; you may not eat of their flesh, and their carcasses you shall detest.

Leviticus 19:19  (God says you can't wear clothing of two different types of fabric.)

Mark 16:17-18   (Jesus says that Christians will be able to cast out demons, speak in tongues, drink poison without being harmed, and do faith healing.  This is either a lie or there are no true Christians.)

17   "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;

18   they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."  (NASB)

 

John 14:12-13   (Jesus says that true Christians will be able to perform works greater than Jesus did.  This is either a lie or there are no true Christians.)

12   "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.

Exodus 14:1-31   (As the Israelites were leaving Egypt)

1   Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

2   "Tell the sons of Israel to turn back and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you shall camp in front of Baal-zephon, opposite it, by the sea.

3   For Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, ‘They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.'

4   Thus I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will chase after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD."  And they did so. 

5   When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his servants had a change of heart toward the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?"

6   So he made his chariot ready and took his people with him;

7   and he took six hundred select chariots, and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them.

8   The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he chased after the sons of Israel as the sons of Israel were going out boldly.

15   Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to Me?  Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.

16   As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.

17   As for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen.

18   Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen."

23   Then the Egyptians took up the pursuit, and all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots and his horsemen went in after them into the midst of the sea.

26   Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen."

28   The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even Pharaoh's entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained.

31   When Israel saw the great power which the LORD had used against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses.  (NASB)
