John W. Loftus was a preacher and scholar under theologist William Lane Craig who left his church and then Christianity altogether. As an elder of his church he was involved in a discussion on how to handle a situation between a youth counselor and an elder; and members of the board were using the same bible verses to justify their positions on how to approach a resolution. He questioned a scripture that could be adaptive to whatever point was being made by a person who quoted them as to find different conclusions as to what was being taught by God.
Since then, Loftus has written one book and edited two others on the subject of Atheism and Christianity. I read Why I Became an Atheist in 2008 and have now read the book he edited The Christian Delusion . I look forward to reading The End of Christianity.
This show takes a look at Loftus' version of the "Outsider Test of Faith," which invites believers to look at their own religious beliefs from the standpoint of someone who doesn't cling to the faith aspect. Can their religion survive rational scrutiny?
